“Our bodies are our gardens to which our wills are our gardeners”
Our time with John was coming to an end as we woke up the next day and headed back up through Utah. Once we dropped him off at his truck in Beaver, we started following him even further north. That is until we decided our adventures with him weren’t over just yet. We wanted to hit some hot springs in Utah before we left the state, so we made a quick stop at Meadow Hot Springs. This is a neat place in the middle of someone’s property, with three hot spring pools in a triangular shape. These pools are free and open to the public, and they seem to be pretty popular. We ended up only staying in one which was quite deep, as people were trying to swim further and further down to some unattainable bottom. Everyone was friendly and the dogs were super cute.

Back on the road, we decided our hot spring extravaganza wasn’t fulfilled. Michael called up John and easily convinced him to follow us off the freeway again and hop back in the van towards another set of hot springs. This time we had to hike a bit to get to them. Diamond Fork hot springs is about a 5 mile round trip hike. You walk along the river for a ways and eventually end up at various pools. You can go further past the first couple and reach some more, and even further down the trail is one that requires crossing the river to get to.
Finally it was time to finish our trek up to Salt Lake City. Thanks to John’s humble abode we were able to take a shower, do some laundry, and jack his wifi to watch the finale of Game of Thrones. Apparently all the driving that day had us worn out, so we got back in the van and called it a night.
Come morning, we said our goodbyes and stopped at Walmart for some much needed groceries, Sam’s Club to top our fuel tank off, and the parking lot to have a desperate “spring cleaning.” Apparently having three people live in a van for a few days calls for a major cleanup. From here, it was time to officially leave Utah. We took the scenic route out of the state passing Great Salt Lake and driving through the salt flats.

Nevada greeted us with a gnarly rain storm, but it cleared up almost as fast as it came on. We didn’t do too much in Nevada apart from driving through the northern areas, pulling off the freeway because we saw a hot springs sign (come to find out they were boiling hot springs not very acceptable to hangout in) and seeing an unforgettable sunset. We also pulled off on an exit to of course make some dinner and get more gas. Eventually we arrived in Reno and parked at a Walmart to spend the night.
